Migri Appointment for EU Citizens: IHH Helsinki Registration Guide
EU registration is a different queue from residence permits — calmer, slower-moving and much more winnable. Here is how to approach it.
EU citizens registering their right of residence in Finland follow a different process from non-EU applicants. This guide covers everything you need to know.

When are IHH appointments released?
You will see forum posts claiming Thursdays 14:00–16:00. Our own monitoring does not confirm that as a rule: releases cluster on Tuesday afternoons around 15:00 Helsinki time, with cancellations appearing at any hour. The good news is that EU registration slots survive far longer on screen than permit appointments, often hours rather than minutes.
We monitor International House Helsinki and all 11 offices 24/7, so it does not matter when a slot opens — you hear about it within seconds. €10/week.
Get Instant Alerts →Processing times
| Application type | Typical processing time |
|---|---|
| EU worker registration | 1–2 weeks |
| EU student registration | 2–3 weeks |
| Self-sufficient EU citizen | 2–4 weeks |
You can stay in Finland while waiting for the decision.
Rights after registration
- A registration certificate
- The right to work in Finland
- Access to Finnish social services
- Kela card eligibility
- A Finnish personal identity code if you do not already have one
Family members of EU citizens
Non-EU family members apply for a residence card of a family member of an EU citizen, which is a separate appointment type from EU registration. Our monitoring covers both.
